Truth Baptist Church of Jacksonville

Last night we held our first official meeting! Sadly, no one took a picture, but hopefully soon we can get a good one of the 7 of us.

Number in Attendance: 7. Pastor Matt (is that what we should call you or do you prefer Pastor Rowley?), Jen, Will Martin, Josh, myself, and the two little tykes Noah and Brianne.

Place of meeting: Matt and Jen's "house"

Purpose of meeting: Bible study and prayer

We all gathered at Matt and Jen's for dinner and then had a short Bible study time, talking mainly about 1 Tim 1, among other passages. We looked at Paul's admonition to Timothy and the "grace, mercy, and peace" from God that he could enjoy. Jen was a trooper and took nursery after it became apparent that our kids weren't going to be still and quiet. :) After this we had a time of prayer, with all the adults taking turns praying. Jen came back for prayer time and we were able to pray with relatively little distraction from Noah which was a blessing! I think we all got a little taste of Truth Baptist Church in its fledgling state. We are looking forward to seeing how the Lord will grow us (both in physical numbers and in our character) over the next year.

Right now we are praying that:
1. The Lord would give us wisdom and discernment in the decisions that have to be made (hundreds of them, it would seem)
2. The Lord would provide an affordable location that would be the best for our purposes.
3. We would have witnessing opportunities (and use them!) to reach the unsaved and church-seeking people.
4. Matt would have the Lord's help in being our pastor.
5. Matt and Jen would find a house conducive for a pastor's family.

Wow, Joanna, I just wrote a post about our first meeting. I didn't know that you had already written! I should have just copied your post! As far as a name, I'm not quite sure. Whatever you feel comfortable with. I know it is going to take some time for me to get used to all of this!

The Hand of God

 I am in Scotland. S C O T L A N D. This is me; Joanna, the one whose comfort zone is within about one square mile, who said she never wanted to leave the USA, who hates to travel on anything public, who nearly hyperventilates at the mere mention of airplanes. How is this possible that I am here? Only by God's grace. Every step in front of the other, every long line, every minute on those airplanes was enabled by God's grace. On my end, it wasn't always pretty--usually it was very ugly--and I may have said, "I can't do this" more times than we could count (Josh had to tell me to quit saying that), but God was faithful to me and I have a really great story about one such miracle to share with you, but for perspective and contrast I have to share a really ugly story first. The Whole Truth

Our cat, Willow, has kittens periodically. By periodically I mean about 2-3 times a year, and we don't hate it. We actually enjoy guessing when her due date is, how many kittens there will be, what they will look like, etc. Then when she has them, well, is there anything cuter than kittens? But sooner or later, 8 weeks later to be exact, it's time for those kittens to go. At that time we will put an ad on Craigslist and find homes for each and every one. This brings the fun hassle of sending people additional pictures, telling them again how much we are charging (that was in the ad!), setting up potential meetings with people who will ghost at the last minute, after we've already given them our address. Everyone should put an ad on Craigslist at least once just for the experience.
