Small Improvements

I've noticed that once you move into a house, all those little projects that were left unfinished....stay unfinished. Or at least it takes a very very very long time to get around to doing them. Very. Who can blame you? Unpacking and making things look like home is challenge enough, without adding extra projects on top of it all. Not to mention that life has to keep going. Laundry, work, cooking, cleaning, child-rearing, shopping, etc etc etc. Who has time to spackle?

I still have high hopes for our patio room, which at present houses our Christmas decorations, various odd construction materials, and some pretty depressing wall studs. High hopes, yes, but not for tomorrow. For "sometime." And now, I have more hope that "sometime" will actually come! Over the past few weeks, we've been trying to tackle the remaining last few things that needed to be done, and it feels so good to have accomplished them!

Take the under-the-microwave area for example. When we were tiling, we under-estimated the size of the microwave. Or we over-estimated the size of the cabinets right above it. Either way, we ended up with this rather unsightly gap in the tile backsplash. I only took a picture of it because it was about to get fixed. If you've noticed in all my other kitchen pictures up to this point, I have made sure the angle was such that you didn't see this. But it's been there all the time, begging us to cover up its nakedness with a little tile.

And so we did. It looks soooooo much better now!

The pictures at the top are of our office. I don't think I've ever shown you our office, have I? That's because it had been filled with boxes and it was, generally speaking, a pit. However, now, with the addition of a bookshelf, some curtains, and some wall art, has become much more welcoming.
Projects Still To Do in our house include:
  • Repaint the front door (which I have a sinking feeling will lead to repainting the shutters as well. Boo!)
  • Hang closet doors in Noah's room and the guest room
  • Grout over the backsplash tile in the kitchen. Long story. Don't ask.
  • Touch-up the paint in the master bathroom
  • Fix up the patio room
  • Make the landscaping more inviting. (ie: rip out the bushes that line our house in front)

There are probably others, but at the moment I can't think of them.
