Cat Out of the Bag

I cheered the day I discovered Noah could read.  I mean when he could really read more than the three-letter , one-syllable, at-bat-cat-mat variety of words.  What an accomplishment!  But while it is thrilling to have a child who can read, I gotta tell you there is a downside too.  Now I have to watch what I leave sitting around.

For example:  On my To Do list this week among "mop the floor," "dust the living room" and other such yawners, was an item a mere two words long.  
  • Kingdom Chronicles
That's all it said.  By that, I meant I needed to purchase the new Patch the Pirate cd titled Kingdom Chronicles for Noah's birthday (which is next Saturday!).  I left my To Do list on the counter and didn't think anything of it when I saw Noah reading it.  I thought he'd get to "clean toilets" and move on.  Nope.  Next thing I knew, Noah said, "Oh good!  You're getting Kingdom Chronicles for me!  For my birthday, right?"

He's going to be just like his daddy: impossible to keep a secret from!

That is too adorable! My mother claims I did the same thing when I began reading--I would find the Christmas receipts and read them. So glad Caleb is learning to read! That is too exciting!

365 Project, week 4

A pretty normal week for us again!  We had lots of everyday moments in preparation for an out-of-the-ordinary week to come.  Here's how it looked:   Daddy time in the evening often involves an episode of Bonanza.  Little Joe is a favorite around here! Bath time for Seth.  Maybe it's because he's my second child, but I do not have anywhere near the amount of baby gear I had with Noah.  Baby bathtub? Tonight We Babysat Brianne

How's that for a title? Very creative, I know. Let me know if you ever need me to come up with a witticism for you. Totally kidding here! :) Matt and Jen went out on their monthly Date Night, so we got a chance to have Brianne over for the evening. What fun! They don't really play with each other, just near each other. Hopefully that will change. Bathtime! This cracks me up. Brianne dive-bombed a rubber duck! Who knows what Noah is doing. :) So cheesy, this kid! She really, really wanted my camera. So the whole evening went well. Josh helped out, which was unexpected and wonderful. :) After her bath, Brianne was crying (I think she got cold) and I gave her to Josh while I finished up with Noah. Once we got her warmed up, she was fine. She is such a sweetheart, and we look forward to next month when we get her again for an evening. Paper Weight

  So, this happened. (This will be my fifty-first explanation, but that's okay!) Seth was riding our one-wheel on Friday. He was admittedly going too fast (the machine was actually beeping at him!) and he fell off, wrecking himself on the asphalt. Besides the mean road rash you see in the picture, he also sprained his left wrist and broke his collar bone on the right side. Broke. His. Clavicle. "What's a one-wheel; is that like a unicycle?" is our most commonly asked question. And since a picture is worth a thousand words, this is a one-wheel:  We are so thankful Seth was wearing his helmet, that I was out for a walk on the same street with him at the time it happened, and that it was not worse.  What I am having a harder time being thankful for is insurance. Since when does an insurance company get to tell me that we can or cannot be seen by a doctor?  Let me back up. We went to the ER shortly after the accident. X-rays happened.
