365 Project; week 29

This week Seth learned to pick up food with the "pincer" grasp and place it accurately (albeit messily) in his mouth.  A must for anyone! :)  He has been loving little pieces of banana, baby goldfish, Gerber puffs, and anything else he can pinch.

On occasion, Josh and I have been watching cooking shows together after the kids go to bed. We have been inspired to make our everyday food more flavorful.  Here was lunch one day, as I boosted our turkey sandwiches with a little sun-dried tomato pesto.  It was yummy!

We celebrated Noah's 6th birthday a couple of times this week; once on Thursday with Matt and Jen's family, and then on Saturday (his actual birthday) with just us.  Here's the cake I made for Noah's party on Thursday night.  The idea came from Family Fun magazine a couple years ago.

Love. This. Picture!  Noah, completely unaware that Josh was taking this photo, with a genuine smile on his face.  To me this says pure, unadulterated joy, which is what birthdays are great for!

Making Thank You cards for the gifts Noah received.  Wow, do I look scary!

On Saturday, we went out for Noah's birthday dinner to Cracker Barrel where we let Noah order his own kid's meal for the first time ever!  (Usually he shares with us)  He ordered a hamburger with a side of macaroni and cheese, and coke to drink.  He felt like big stuff!  (Josh didn't know he was in the photo. Clearly. One other note:  the food in this picture looks crazily crammed onto the table.  This is because Seth is just out of view to the right, and was reaching for anything he could grab!  This made eating a challenge and forced us to crowd the table all to one side. :)

And then!  We went to Adventure Landing and took advantage of their birthday special.  We got to do 5 activities for free since it was Noah's birthday!  Noah and Josh rode the go-carts 3 times!!

Seth and me on the sidelines.

Noah and I rode the Wacky Worm roller coaster, also free!

Tuesday I took the kids to the zoo for a picnic lunch.  We rode the carousel and went to the splash park before heading home for Seth's afternoon nap.

That's what went on in these parts.  How about in your neck of the woods?

As I said on FB, that cake is AMAZING! You are so talented! I am quite certain I couldn't make that cake. It sounds like Noah had a wonderful birthday! Yay!
